Actually this is more than one question:
- Why cruise?
- Why to Bermuda?
- Why with Celebrity Cruises?
Why cruise?
Cruising is several holidays wrapped in one – you can make it whatever you want (depending also on the cruise-line): relaxing – just do nothing; active – hit the gym, go on hikes; summer sun; sightseeing and being somewhere else every day without the hassle of packing and unpacking. We have been cruising to the Caribbean (duh – this is where most people start), Alaska, Bermuda, Mediterranean, Adriatic, Hawaii, Transatlantic, and are planning for China, Korea, and Japan as well as a cruise from Athens to Dubai.
So are we true cruisers? I prefer to say we are convinced amateurs if we see how many of our fellow cruisers have done so much more.
Another advantage is how “easy” it is to manage budgets. You just need to determine what you like: do you need a balcony? Will you spend time in your cabin? Do you like extra perks? Cruise lines are notoriously good at up-selling so good planning is key to ensure you really get out of it what you want without spending a fortune on what you don’t need. This is of course something you have to figure out for yourself. My suggestion is to start simple and see for the first cruise what you like.
Why Bermuda?
Why not? Again, we always look what we want to achieve. If we only want to relax, this is perfect. Leaving from New York, 3 days sailing, 3 days Bermuda, and then 2 days back. Plenty of time to relax by the pool. Read up, work on a blog, have a drink, go to the gym. During the port days, the ship is less busy so it is great to go to the spa…
Why Celebrity Cruises?
Because it is the one we started with. We liked it and stuck with it. This makes sense since cruise lines (like airlines and hotels) offer FQC’s (Frequent Cruiser) privileges. In the meantime, we are Elite members in the Captain’s Club (name of Celebrity’s Frequent Cruiser Program) which gives us some nice perks.
They are part of the Royal Caribbean family as is also Azamara that we will use for the Athens to Dubai for the first time. Your privileges and perks are valid from one to the other (just like with airlines and hotels).
