EV roadtrip La Cala de Mijas (Andalusia) to Brussels with stops in Burgos and Tours

Do not hesitate to drive your EV to go on holiday but make sure you start with a relaxed mindset and enjoy the journey

We went through the 3 days without any issue of charging – charging never took more than 20 – 30 minutes and we charged in general 2 times a day (mainly because we wanted to arrive with 50 % charge) – each day, we arrived quite early (between 4 and 5 PM) allowing us to explore. It can easily be done in 2 days as well.

Day 1 – La Cala de Mijas to Burgos (808 kms)

First of all, sorry for the delay to publish this – I experienced some issues to update it from the iPad.

We started out later than expected at around 8 AM. As we did not leave with a high charge in the battery, MM (#MercedesMe), our excellent GPS sent us to Ionity in Caserbemeja (close to Malaga) to charge.

The road was really easy to follow with changing landscapes. We charged two more times, as we wanted to have +- 60 % left for the next day to start the journey from Burgos to Tours

Burgos was a revelation, not only because of the excellent AC by Marriott Burgos, with great rooms and friendly unobtrusive service but also as we didn’t know Burgos. Firstly, the AC in Burgos is ideally located in a quiet area. If there is one thing to remark is that you better not drink before driving into their parking as it is very narrow and steep down (our car hit the bottom going in and driving out). But the location, nice rooms, and people make up for it. Dinner is limited but plenty of restaurants around the corner.

Day 2 – Burgos – Tours (800 kms)

It was an uneventful journey to Tours where we had a great stay at the Hilton Garden Inn, very well situated next to the river within walking distance of restaurants and shops. The hotel is a new building connected to a classic building where the restaurant is situated. They offer outside sitting space, ideal to have a drink or eat. Only downside is that the parking next to the hotel is a bit difficult to access but no other negative remarks to make. The welcome by the staff was professional and very warm, the room outstanding. Close by we found Brasserie Madeleine Tours where we had a nice dinner and had excellent service.

Day 3 – Tours to Brussels (651 kms)

We decided to avoid Paris and go via Rouen – which added some time but at least we did not get upset on the ringway around Paris… For the rest, there was nothing special to mention
